Boarding and Grooming In order for us to provide boarding services, we require that your pet be current on his/her vaccinations. For boarding dogs, proof of a current distemper, Rabies, and Bordetella vaccination is required. A negative Heartworm test (if not current on Heartworm prevention) and a negative fecal test are also required. If your dog has not had these vaccinations, we will be happy to provide them at the time of boarding. For boarding cats, proof of a current distemper, Rabies, and Feline Leukemia vaccination is required. A negative Feline Leukemia & Feline AIDS test and negative fecal test are also required. If your cat has not had these vaccinations, we will be happy to provide them at the time of boarding. We require vaccinations not only to ensure that your pet stays healthy while it is under our care, but also to ensure that other animals in our care do not contract specific bacteria/viruses while staying at our clinics. Grooming pets need to be current on Rabies vaccine and a CAPSTAR flea treatment will be provided for flea control and protection of our animals.
Heartworm Testing A heartworm test is required on dogs over 6 months of age prior to anesthetic and surgery unless current on preventive. It only takes one bite from an infected mosquito to transmit heartworm disease. Our clinics see heartworm as a serious threat to both indoor and outdoor pets each year. Heartworm medications are prescription items and cannot be dispensed without proof of a negative heartworm test. Heartworm testing is strongly recommended on an annual basis for all dogs. For more details on how to begin preventing heartworm, contact our staff.
Pre-Anesthesia Blood Work Anesthesia poses risks for all patients regardless of species, breed, age, or sex. The best way to minimize some of the risk of anesthesia is to have blood work done prior to surgery. These tests are similar to those your own physician would run if you were to undergo anesthesia. We strongly encourage all of our surgical candidates to have blood work done prior to the administration of any anesthesia to identify medical conditions that could require treatment in the future.
FeLV/FIV (Feline Leukemia & Feline AIDS Test) These are highly contagious diseases that spread between cats and we recommend testing every cat to determine their disease status. This is especially important to know prior to surgery as these diseases can affect a pet’s ability to handle sedation and recovery. Emergency Services Please call us at once for any emergency. Care is always available for your pet. Emergencies during clinic hours are given priority over routine procedures. Our office hours are Monday - Friday: 8:00 am - 5:30 pm and Saturday: 8:00 am - 12:00 pm. After-hours emergencies are referred to our on-call veterinarian at (931) 645-8955.
Euthanasia The owner of the animal must give our clinics complete authority to euthanize and dispose of the animal. To ensure the safety of our staff, prior to euthanasia, it must be made certain that the animal has not bitten any person or animal during the last ten (10) days and has not been exposed to rabies. We offer both private and mass cremations.
